A worn or failing torsion spring is one of the most common reasons a garage door starts acting up. It might open slowly, feel heavy, make a grinding noise, or just stop working altogether. Most homeowners don't realize the spring is the culprit until the problem gets bad enough to deal with - and by then, it's usually a safety issue too.
That's exactly what we were dealing with here. The existing spring had worn down to the point where the door couldn't operate the way it should. Balanced tension is everything with a garage door - when the spring is off, the opener works harder, the door moves unevenly, and the whole system takes on extra wear it shouldn't have to.
We swapped in a fresh torsion spring and got everything dialed back in. Proper tension, clean hardware, solid mounting. When a spring replacement is done right, you feel it immediately - the door moves smooth, lifts evenly, and the opener sounds like it's barely working at all. That's the goal every time.
Torsion springs aren't something to put off. A fully broken spring can leave your door stuck completely, and in some cases, a snapped spring under tension can be genuinely dangerous. Catching it early - when the door is just starting to struggle or sound rough - is always the better move.
